Charlotte A. Maxwell

August 14th, 1942 - July 13th, 2017

Biography

CHARLOTTE A. MAXWELL, a respected Santa Fe educator, died unexpectedly at her home on Thursday, July 13, 2017. She was 74.

The eldest of Alvin Hartsfield and Sally (née Thompson) Hartsfield’s children, Charlotte was born on August 14, 1942, in Arp, Texas. A beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt and mentor, she was always known to be a caring, beautiful, intelligent person.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Tommy L. Maxwell, and her siblings Charles Hartsfield, and Barbara A. (Stevenson) Hartsfield. Charlotte is survived by her daughters: Michele Maxwell, Karen C de Baca (Daniel), and Shannon Maxwell. She is also survived by her siblings: Marilyn Hartsfield, MSG (Ret.) Kenneth W. Hartsfield, Carolyn Killings, Fred Hartsfield, Geraldine Cespedes, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and sisters-in-law.

As a child, Charlotte grew up in a small town (un pueblo pequeño) called Antonito, CO. It was here that she learned Spanish fluently as a young child. Eventually, her family moved to Santa Fe, NM which they made their permanent home. It was at Santa Fe High School that she would meet her handsome and future husband-to-be. After the high school sweethearts graduated, they married and raised their beautiful family in Santa Fe.

Charlotte was well known at De Vargas Jr. High / Middle School where she taught English, mathematics, and English as a Second Language to hundreds of Santafecinos. She impressed upon her students the importance of getting a good education and making a difference in society. Her students loved her and she genuinely enjoyed teaching them. Following a 27-year career with Santa Fe Public Schools, she retired in 2004

Charlotte enjoyed crocheting and gardening. Her flowers, including her many rose bushes and butterfly bushes were exquisite. She was also an avid reader and she especially enjoyed reading and studying the Bible. As one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, she and her husband along with their congregation, enjoyed engaging in the ministry and studying the Bible with many individuals. Charlotte was a loyal, faithful, and dedicated servant of Jehovah God for many years.

We look forward to the time in the near future when we will see our dear mother and father again, and our dear loved ones and friends who also have fallen asleep in death. In the New World Jehovah God has promised, we long for that time when God “will wipe every tear from our eyes” and “sickness and death will be no more.” –Revelation 21:4

Time: 3:30 p.m.

My deepest sympathy to the family. May the Hearer of prayers grant comfort, courage and strength to you at this time. Psalms 61:1,2 . 61 "Hear, O God, my cry for help. Do pay attention to my prayer. From the ends of the earth I will cry out to you When my heart is in despair. Lead me onto a rock that is higher than I am. For you are my refuge, A strong tower that protects me ." We long for the day when we will welcome back our dear sister in the new world.

Condolences to the family. I attended Dr Vargas 1977ish.... Mrs. Maxwell was a favorite teacher. She had the best smile. Even when telling you to sit down or quit talking in class.
