When I think of Naomi, I think of a smile as big as the sunshine. I would like to consider Naomi as being my "back up mom." When Naomi first met Ted and talked about him her face would light up and she was as giggly as a young girl in love. I knew that Naomi and Ted were destined to be together. Ted, thank you for loving Naomi and I know she brought so much joy and laughter to your life. Naomi left an incredible impact on our lives and she will always be in our thoughts.

All of us touch others’ lives every day and leave an impact on them – and Naomi made an impact on each of our lives. She was a loving and compassionate mother, wife daughter, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend who brought laughter and smiles to each of us. We each have that special Naomi story that will help us keep her memory alive.

Whether it was planning a trip around the world or figuring what to prepare for Thanksgiving dinner – no matter how big or how small, Naomi always had a plan. She kept track of every special occasion on her calendar – never forgetting someone’s birthday or anniversary. Naomi enjoyed life to the fullest– whether it was watching her beloved Dallas Cowboys play a game, boarding a cruise ship or looking at the beautiful New Mexico sunset. She treasured the moments with family and friends and she always had her camera so she wouldn’t miss a moment. She documented her life and that of her family in photos, and kept an annual photo account of each year – and she took such joy sharing those moments with others. Those moments will be forever captured, not only in those photo albums but in our hearts.

Naomi’s illness came as a surprise to each of us and we often asked ourselves – why would such a terrible disease affect such a wonderful woman who had so much love and life to give and then we remember it was God’s plan and there was a reason. . . .For God saw that Naomi was getting tired and a cure was not to be. So he put his arms around her and whispered, “Come with Me.”

With tear-filled eyes we watched her suffer and prepare herself for the glory that awaited her. Although we miss her deeply, we could not make her stay. On Thursday, December 15, a golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands, and an illuminating smile were put to rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us that he only takes the best.

We are all saddened by Naomi’s passing, and

How blessed I am to have been close to the likes of Naomi. Her bright and cheerful disposition infected everyone around her. She was more like a sister than cousin to my mother (Elizabeth King Dodd) and our two families spent a large part of my childhood together. I am so grateful that I had an opportunity to spend an afternoon with Naomi in August. We had such a wonderful visit, discussed my house plans (she noticed with pride how similar my floor plan is to the wonderful house she built many years ago in Talte, Texas!) and many of life's BIG issues. I know that she lit up Ted's life with her bright light, but I also know that he showed her a love that she had never known before and for that I am most grateful. Her years with Ted appeared to me to be so full of love and a sense of peace that I hadn't known in Naomi before. I am grateful that she is no longer suffering, for a spirit as large and vital as hers could not be contained for long in a broken body. May her zest for life live on in each of us who knew and loved her!

i got home early this morning, around 3:30am and it was a long hard drive. my mind was racing between wanting to get home to tina and the kids and what our lives are going to be like with out you. i talked on the phone for hours...all about you. i had a bunch of thoughts about you and me and tina and the girls and bubba. kinda thought out a poem, my first ever, i'll try to remember and write it down. i'm back in my world now with all the familliar buzz and distractions and chasing kids, but it seems like every second you pop in my head. a reminder here, a reminder there. i cried alot comming home too. i can't ever remember feeling this much pain in my heart before. you were truely special! more than any of us will ever be able to describe with words. god must have wanted you bad to take you so young. i love you Mom. now i pray to feel you in my heart, sharing the good times to come and helping me handle the rough ones. i love you and miss you more than i new was possible. I'M YOUR SON!!!
